This is a side blog, so unfortunately I am unable to follow back.

Oh man, I usually bang on about how great running is for my sleep, but despite going out for a seven mile run yesterday morning I just could not sleep last night. Usually I’m ready for bed at 8:30pm, but nope, wide awake and craving toast at 2am. So I thought this morning’s run was not going to happen and resigned myself to take an impromptu rest day and have a lie in. But what do you know, 6:30am rolls up and I’m up and raring to go smash out 5k on four hours sleep.

I don’t cope well on little sleep. I need at least 8 hours a night to feel even remotely human. It’s only a matter of time before I crash spectacularly today, but I got my run done and that’s the main thing!

My usual running route was closed today so I decided to head out and do some interval training for a change. So tempting to skip my workout this morning as I’m not good with my routine being disrupted, but I just got ready and out the door before my brain was properly engaged. Feeling great now! No regrets!

Back in Leicester again, this time for my grandparent’s golden wedding anniversary.

If you’re not aware, the pollution levels across the UK have been really high over the last few days, especially here in the East Midlands. So that “mist” has been hanging around since Wednesday. It’s quite disgusting really to think that we’re doing this to our planet. It’s also really strange to see smog out here in the countryside.

Anyway, I took it slow this morning to avoid breathing too hard. Hopefully this will all properly clear by the end of today.

Just signed up to run a half marathon in my home town. Really determined to get a sub 2hr time at this one, so going to be hitting the training really hard this summer!

A very misty 7 mile run this morning. Pace wasn’t that great as I was struggling with my breathing a bit for some reason. Might have been a the moisture in the air.

I also finally received the money owed to me by the electricity company this morning, so I’m hoping to book my place for Leicester half marathon soon!

Visiting my mum for the weekend, so was treated to a nice countryside run this morning through the fields just outside the village.

I never thought I’d be one of those runners who posted their splits because frankly mine were never that interesting. Always more or less the same for the past two years, and always slow as hell.
But just lately, over the last month or so, I’ve been really proud of them. Sure, they may not look like much to fast runners, but to me they represent a vast improvement. I was stuck in the 10’30 - 11’00 minute mile pace for so long I thought I’d never get any faster. It was frustrating. But from just adding in some hill work and an extra training session a week I’m finally starting to speed up!

Ran 12 miles yesterday, the longest run I’ve done in months. Check out the massive Navy ship near my apartment complex! The picture doesn’t really do justice to just how huge it is. Thought we were being bloody invaded when I first saw it!
Yesterday’s run was also pretty eventful as I fell over at mile 11. For the first time in three years of running I actually properly fell down. Now I’m a pretty clumsy person, I regularly stumble when I’m running, or even just walking! But yesterday I was so tired at mile 11 I just couldn’t right myself and ended up just falling to the ground. Luckily no one was around to see (although if anyone was watching the CCTV they’d have a good laugh), and I fell pretty slowly so I’ve only come away with a slight graze on my elbow. But yeah, it was pretty weird to feel yourself falling and not having the strength to do anything about it. Still, I got straight back up and finished the final mile like the boss I am.

Nice 7 mile run this morning in the fog. Did 10k in 59:54, juuuuust a sub 1hr, but I’m still really pleased. My training 10k time is usually around 1hr 3mins, so this is a big improvement. I’ve really started to notice my speed improve since I’ve upped my weekly mileage. Maybe a sub 2hr half marathon this autumn is in reach?

Such a gorgeous day today. I was supposed to do my long run yesterday but decided postpone it due to the crazy horrible weather. So glad I did as it was beautiful out this morning. First run in ages where I wasn’t soaked by rain and struggling through strong winds.

Also went to the beach with my mate for some well deserved fish and chips in the afternoon. Perfect Sunday.
